Washingtonian: 6 New Art Installations on the National Mall Will Spotlight Overlooked Histories

The works will honor Vietnamese refugees, queer Black musicians, and more.

“The National Mall is one of the most iconic commemorative spaces in the nation with monuments, memorials, and open spaces,” [Trust for the National Mall Vice President of Communications Julie] Moore says. “But it’s also a finite space and is continually in demand for additional storytelling opportunities. … You need to go through an extraordinary amount of work through regulation and funding in order to have permanent coverage on the National Mall, so this is a way for more stories to be told without those barriers to entry.”
